Kestrel

Desktop · Rust + React · System monitorKestrel shows what is using your machine with one row per app instead of a thousand processes. It keeps 30 days of history for every metric, maps listening ports and dev servers to the apps that own them, and lives in the tray.

Overview

Most system monitors list processes. Kestrel groups them by app, so a browser with forty helpers or an editor with its language servers shows up as one row with one number. Ten tabs cover CPU, memory, disk, network, GPU, battery, sensors, listening ports and dev projects, and a range picker switches every chart between live, 1h, 24h, 7d and 30d. History is stored locally in SQLite.

It is built for developers as much as for everyday use. The Ports tab maps every listening port to the app that owns it, with a stop button, and the Projects tab groups dev servers by project folder, spots idle ones and stops them in one click. Remote access lets a phone browser or the native iOS client read the same metrics over your local network.

Why Kestrel

  • 01One row per app instead of a thousand processes
  • 0230 days of history for every metric, stored locally in SQLite
  • 03Every listening port mapped to its app, with a stop button
  • 04Dev servers grouped by project, with idle detection and one-click cleanup
  • 05AMD and NVIDIA GPU stats on Linux, plus battery, thermals and fans
  • 06Optional remote access with a native iOS client and home screen widget

Install

There are no release builds yet, so build it from source with Deno and the Tauri toolchain. On Linux you also need webkit2gtk-4.1, gtk3 and libappindicator.

shell
# install dependencies
deno install
# run in development
deno task tauri dev
# build a release bundle
deno task tauri build

Remote access is off by default and read-only when enabled. Stopping processes over the network is a separate opt-in, and the access token can be rotated at any time.
